An Interesting Tip for Finding Drafts

If you are battening down the hatches in preparation for winter (and an expensive heating season), here's an interesting tip that I ran across. It's for those of us who live in a home with a basement.

If you have an unfinished basement (ie. it's where you store your "stuff"), you can find leaks by looking for spider webs! That's right -- spider webs. Generally, when there's a web, there's a draft.

It makes sense. Spiders are predator insects, and they want to be in an area where prey could be blown or drift into the web for capture. A draft is a good hunting strategy for a hunter who stays still.

So, not enough money for one of those fancy energy audits? But you'd still like to save some money, I'm sure. Well, the biggest bite in your heating bill occurs when you have to heat up cold outside air. Get rid of those drafts with the help of a few spiders.
